At a point in time where all signs are pointing towards a position coach in the Super Bowl, the Eagles have interviewed Jon Hoke, the defensive backs coach for the Chicago Bears. He did a pretty good job with average talent for Chicago this past season, but I must say that I’m not a big fan of the cover 2 shell they play. That scheme could suit our talent, but I think that teams have figured out how to exploit its weak points after Tampa Bay, Indianapolis, and Chicago have had so much success running it. Hiring Hoke would mean that the Eagles plan to stick with the 4-3, which I believe will ultimately be best for the team. Safety Danieal Manning and defensive tackle Tommie Harris could be inclined to follow Hoke to Philadelphia, and Hoke seems like an attractive but not ideal candidate for the defensive coordinator position. I must say that the vacancy is much more of a mystery than anybody initially thought with Dick Jauron and Jim Mora out of the mix.
